The recognition and enforcement of foreign court judgments and arbitral awards are actions taken by the competent authorities of a country to acknowledge the legal value (validity) of civil judgments and decisions from another country, thereby allowing those judgments and decisions to be enforceable within the territory of the country.
Generally, there are three main conditions for a foreign court or arbitral decision to be considered for recognition in Vietnam:

According to the provisions of the civil procedure law, the following judgments and decisions are eligible for recognition and enforcement in Vietnam:

The statute of limitations for requesting the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and decisions in Vietnam is 3 years. The application for recognition and enforcement should include the following main contents:
- Details of the Enforcement Party: Full name, address of residence, or place of work of the person to be enforced.
- Details of the Person Required to Comply: Full name, address, place of residence, or place of work of the person required to comply. If the person required to comply does not have a residence or place of work, or does not have a principal office in Vietnam, the application must specify the address of where the assets and related types of assets are located.
- Request of the Enforcement Party: The specific request of the person seeking enforcement.
Documents to be Attached with the Application:
- Original or Certified Copy of the Judgment or Decision: The original or a certified copy of the foreign court or commercial arbitration judgment or decision.
- Confirmation of Legal Effectiveness: A document from the foreign court or other competent foreign authority confirming that the judgment or decision is legally effective, has not expired, and needs to be enforced.
- Proof of Valid Service: A document from the foreign court or competent foreign authority confirming the valid service of the judgment or decision to the person required to comply.
- Confirmation of Proper Summons: A document from the foreign court or competent foreign authority confirming that the person required to comply or their legal representative was properly summoned if the foreign court issued the judgment in their absence.
